Round Paxos, the most southern point
Logbook: 2024.06.18 Nikolaos to Paxos / Lakka

Motoring, Sailing, Zick-Zack, Motoring … crowded bay. It was a long day rounding Paxos.
I had the idea to find a nice spot at the south end of the island … but too crowded. Being likely in the flow of the charter crews.

At 13:58 we are rounding the southern tip of Paxos island. This being the most southern point (39,176807/20,212260) of our Tour. Now we are sailing back north again.

So further round the island and zick zack up north. Two boats make a regatta. There is a competitive sailor following, trying to catch up. It is an upwind course. All sails up and tight. Even so the JF is small, she is sailing well. We definitely gain. The other boat changing tactic, trying to go a faster track, but … after some zick-zack, the competitor lowered the sails and motored. Win!

Lakka bay is a shallow, 4m depth bay with sandy bottom. Well protected, a beautiful landscape and clear water. But super crowded. Finding a spot to drop the anchor isn’t easy, for less experienced crews certainly a significant challenge. During the day are some rental boats going in and out. Some cruise ships (with many many passengers) dock for an hour, spitting out the tourists that swarm the tiny village. In the evening very quiet. Nice, small village. There are restaurants and bars. Some you can directly park the tender up front. An excellent place to chill and enjoy the sunset.

Relax at Lakka. . . Caribbean feeling. It is super hot, 38C. 10 times a day jumping into the sea. News report says, with the current heat wave in the Mediterranean some people already died. It is really hot … getting back into the water, and even there I am hiding in the shadow of the Jolie Fleur.
