A horrible ride
Logbook: 2024.07.06 Levan to Novigrad

The wind and the rattling anchor chain that scratcher over the rocky bottom kept me awake through the night at Ilovik.

It is an all day wind parallel to the Istrien coast estimated. Not perfect with the wind straight from the back. Typically that is a slow course, waves pushing and the boat rolling. Not comfortable, but good to give us a push all the way.

The wind had a long way over the Adriatic sea to put a lot of energy into the water. Waves were high and steep, pushing the Jolie Fleur from behind. A horrible ride, with 20-30 knots pushing from the south, the Jolie Fleur rolling and bouncing. More than once I fell over to the other side of the cockpit, while she leaned over heavily.

Most of the time only using the fore sail. Tried the main sail and also the Gennaker. But that wasn’t working well with the waves from behind.

Also some nice dolphin spotting.

Happy to arrive at Novigrad, looking forward to a mooring buoy in the protected harbor. Unfortunately, the weather situation made many stay in the marina. And also it is getting weekend, new arrivals from Italy that took the wind opportunity, filled up the space. Only in a less protected area was some space left for me. With the heavy sea and wind, it took me three approaches to hook up the boat to the buoy. Still better than the other crews that took even more tries, some even gave up and went somewhere else.

Even in the harbor, the Jolie Fleur bounced and tilted. Very unpleasant. Also no chance to get to the city with the SUP. To much wind and waves.

Knowing it is safe at the buoy, I was relaxed and went to sleep early.
