Just a short crossing … but what the F…
Logbook Day 07 – Rava to Sukosan

That day already started off no good. Taking the trash to shore with the SUP, slipped on the rocks and got some scratches. Grrr….

Not too far to Sukosan. Took the time to cruise the narrow Srdnji Chanal, down the eastern shore of Otok island. Speed ferries are passing, making significant waves. A Fireplane touches down to collect water and to dump it somewhere at a wildfire.

Nice northern wind, an easy ride. Zick zacked up to the northern tip of Ugljan and through the small channel. Nice anchorages there, I noted down.

Round the corner, I pointed the Jolie Fleuer down wind towards the Sukosan harbor. The wind picked up to 10-13 knots. Niiiiceee. Get the Gennaker up for some speed. After some minutes at full steam …. bang. The Gennaker pole came lose. Banging heavily around. Quickly pointing the autopilot 20 degree further downwind, lose the ropes of the Gennaker, sprint to the bow to rescue the pole and down the Gennaker. Terrible. Some damage on the deck and the shackle that held the pole.

All back under control, calming down and easily cruising to Sukosan. A spacious bay that a knew from some previous sailing. A good place to set anchor in 4-6 m depth.

Ending this day with a beer and early sleep.

Expecting a guest, Holger, to arrive in the evening. So staying at the place for the day, time to find a fix for the Gennaker pole and tidy up a little. Taking the SUP for some trips to the nearby harbor to get some water. SUP to Sukosan village for groceries.

Holger arrive at about 20:30, just at sunset. I go to pick him up on the peer. The forecast for the next days is rather rough, so I am happy to have some additional hands on board.

  1. Off… those “scratches” on you leg look… not so good. That had to hurt.
I hope you were able to fix the gennaker pole.
