Final leg
Logbook: 2024.07.07 Novigrad to Punta Gabbiani
The final leg. 26 miles to Lignano and our home base, the Marina Punta Gabbiani. Wind until noon from west. Again likely a bouncy ride with waves and wind from the rear.
At 11:00 I am at the entry point to the water way to get into the laguna. So far only few boats on the water. But it is Sunday. In Italy. People get started at 10:00. And that’s how it went. Like woken up by a joint signal, about 20 sailboats and 100 small motor boats get out to sea. Constantly we need to adjust course, making sure not no crash into one of those.
Wind’s now from the side with some 16 knots. It seems most of those motor boat captains have difficulties setting course accordingly, drifting to the side of the channel and right into my way. Sometime only 1/2 or 1 meter left when passing.
We pushed it hard to get to the Marine before lunch break. Just didn’t make it. Parked the Jolie Fleur at the dock. Had to wait until 15:00 to get her out of the water and to the dry dock.
Well, waiting ain’t be that bad, when you know you arrived, all safe and sound, with an ice cold Aperol Spritz to nip on and cooling off in the pool. 1365 nm in 46 days. Italy-Croatia-Albania and Greece. Sunsets and Thunderstorms. Joy and pain. Life’s a beach!
7h sailing, 34 nm
