Logbook Day 13 – Trogir to Mljet
There are still thunderstorms and rain forecasted for today until 14:00. So have to wait all morning. Stocking up supply at the local supermarket. Holger heads for the airport. Timely at 14:00 drop the ropes and back on tour. Quite a few fellow sailors had that same thought, I guess. It is getting busy and the AIS (Collision Warning) beeps a lot.
At the open water, sails up and bow pointing south. Nice. Passing the channel between Brac and Sesula. Further over to Hvar. Sunset is at 20:30, so I pass Hvar at already dark.
Sailing at night is always somewhat special. The senses detect differently. Priority is on audio and feeling (balance), less on visual. Navigation lights at shore provide a hint on the position. Other boats are visible on the green-red-white lights. Depending which color you see, it gives you an idea where the boat is heading relative to yourself. Red for portside, green for starboard, white is rear.
It is a clear sky with an impressive amount of stars. The cloudy milky-way. Overwhelming. Jolie Fleur’s mast and top lights are circling in a everlasting rhythm.
It is getting cold, so a take the sleeping bag to the cockpit. Another 4 hours to sunrise at 05:30. Alarm is set to 10 minute intervals, making sure I keep a look out and still can catch some minutes of sleep in between.
Before Korcula city, sun comes up. It is getting warm quickly. Korcula is quite a touristy, a busy town. Many cruise-ships there, taking off one by one. A stressful situation navigation in-between some 10-15 very large vessels. Puh.
Wind is slow but steady. So pointing to the next island, Mljet. I know an anchorage at the northern end, from a trip some years ago. That’s the target for today.
Arriving at about noon time, the bay is mostly empty. I find a nice place to drop anchor. Take a rest. Later put a shore line and do some swimming.
